Alex has baked all his working life, starting out as a young lad of 8 years delivering bread and milk from the back of a van. He earned five old shillings a week and as much bread & cakes as he could carry home!

Alex started proper work in a Home Bakery on Bolton Road, Darwen. Owned by Charlie Brock and his wife Hilda. Sixty hour weeks were the norm in those days. You try telling the kids that these days!
